Golden Retriever at Dunbow Country Kennels
Do you have indoor or outdoor play spaces?

All of our dog boarding services include both indoor and outdoor play spaces for your pup. Our space is large enough to give your pup the room they need to feel comfortable as well as plenty of friends to play with. We also make sure to separate larger dogs from smaller dogs so that none of our guests feel intimidated, or out of their league on the playing field.

To give your pet the most outdoor activity possible, the outdoor and indoor play space is used all day, for all dog boarding guests! At Dunbow Country Kennels we also have separate outdoor areas for dogs that do not participate in social or group play activities.

Why are private suites better than an open concept?

While pet parents might think their dogs would prefer to sleep around other pups, private boarding rooms are scientifically proven to provide a safer and more comfortable space for pets to get away from the group after enjoying time socializing during the day. This gives them time to relax and refresh before rejoining groups in the morning and can lead to a healthier, less stressful stay.

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

Yes! Vaccinating your dog before boarding is crucial to prevent the spread of contagious, sometimes fatal diseases in high-density environments. It protects your dog and others, creates necessary herd immunity against illnesses like Kennel Cough, Parvovirus, and Rabies, and is a mandatory requirement for reputable facilities.

How to prepare my dog before their stay?

Leave them on a Positive Note!

Leaving your pup on their first boarding adventure is a big moment for you and them! It is crucial that you leave your dog on a positive note during their first stay to set them up for success.

As hard as goodbyes may be, remember that dogs pick up on our emotions. You might not be able to talk to your dog, but you can communicate in so many ways with body language and tone. Keep your departure short and upbeat! If you are excited about their vacation, they will be too. Give your pup a joyful send off to make it an enjoyable experience.

If this is your first time with us we recommend you book a short 2 night stay with us prior to your planned trip. This helps give us time to see the temperament and play style of your dog to ensures the environment is a good fit for your pup.

What should I bring?

Food! Please bring only enough food plus two days (in case of unexpected delays) of food prepackaged and labelled. We are limited with our storage area and cannot accommodate large bags of dog food. If your dog is on a raw diet, make sure to pre portion each meal so it is easy for us to thaw and feed. We have limited fridge and freezer space.

No food or water bowls will be accepted. We have many stainless steel ones as well as slow feeders that we use. If your dog requires an elevated food dish or slow feeder please let the staff know at drop off.

You are welcome to bring a bed or blanket from home however understand Dunbow Country Kennels is not responsible for the condition it will be returned to you. We encourage you to leave their very favorite bed, blanket and toys at home. We have lots of our own comfy bedding we can provide for them that gets washed regularly.

Only plastic and rubber toys are allowed to come. Keep all fabric toys at home please.

What does our daily routine look like?

Dogs are taken out for a fun energetic play first thing in the morning before breakfast. Any departures for that day happen afterwards. Downtime to digest and all cleaning of kennels happens until finished. At some point in the afternoon everyone goes out for the longest play session of the day before returning for another rest period before receiving supper.

The last adventure happens late in the evening during sunset to ensure everyone is comfortable prior to lights out to finish off the day. If parents allow a bedtime treat is also handed out during this time. All play sessions are individually time set depending on weather conditions. Generally, the dogs let us know when they would like to go back inside for a rest. It’s their vacation after all!
